Senior Graphic Designer Needed to Make the World a Better Place (Full Time) San Francisco, CA


Better World Advertising (BWA) is an award-winning social marketing firm with offices in San Francisco and New York. We specialize in the development, design and implementation of multi-faceted public health and social welfare campaigns for nonprofit organizations including government agencies and educational institutions. Our work addresses a range of issues such as LGBT and minority health, HIV prevention, harm reduction, tobacco prevention/cessation, suicide prevention, obesity and foster care/adoption. The crux of the role is about creating messages with different audiences aimed at changing their behavior.

In this position you be responsible for working with the President/Creative Director to establish the conceptual and stylistic direction for you and one other designer. You will create and execute design concepts as well as maintaining visual appearance, readability/usability and continuity. You will also oversee quality control for print and web production and potentially manage outside vendors including photographers, illustrators, printers and anyone else who is involved in the development of a project.

The ideal candidate is a big picture person who can multitask with energy, passion, and knowledge of the latest design trends and best practices, and has a passion for making the world a better place.

BWA has a small, nimble team where each staff member wears many hats. In addition to the responsibilities described above, day-to-day tasks may include:

  • Contributing to team brainstorms for new campaigns
  • Drafting initial print, interactive and branding concepts
  • Designing final press-ready artwork
  • Laying out campaign collateral such as brochures and reports
  • Creating logos and style guides
  • Creating graphics for reports (info graphics, bar/circle graphs, etc.)
  • Formatting campaign ads and other collateral based on final art for different media channels
  • Color management and file set up for pre-press and web production
  • Organizing workflow, file organization and filling out time sheets
  • Organizing and directing photo shoots
  • Coordinating with project managers to streamline communication between teams
  • Managing company identity including website, awards and branded materials


  • Passionate commitment to social causes
  • A four-year fine arts degree in graphic design
  • Interest in and understanding of the world of social marketing (as distinct from social media)
  • Solid background in and passion for graphic design and typography
  • At least five year’s experience as a designer
  • A collaborative, team-oriented work style
  • Ability to work on multiple deliverables simultaneously and execute effectively under tight deadlines
