Anti Obesity Campaign Targets K-6 PE

Better World Advertising launched our first anti-obesity campaign this week. Funded with federal stimulus monies aimed at reducing chronic disease, the “Mind and Body Go Together” campaign encourages New York schools to provide more and better physical education. Despite rising rates of childhood obesity, many school districts have cut back on PE to cut budgets and focus on test preparation. The new campaign reminds school administrators that PE is important to both health and academic performance. The state requires at least 120 minutes per week of PE, but few districts are meeting this requirement.

BWA developed the campaign with Healthy Schools New York, a consortium of 19 local agencies funded by the New York State Department of Health, that provides assistance to school districts to develop and implement comprehensive PE plans. The campaign ads will be featured in professional education publications and on New York school district websites through June 30th. www.WheresMyPE.org.
