BWA Honored with Two American Graphic Design Awards

Better World Advertising is the proud recipient of two 2014 American Graphic Design awards for our Take Pride, Leave Cigarettes and Information is Powerful Medicine campaigns. BWA’s work was selected from among over 8,000 entries.

Take Pride, Leave Cigarettes is an anti-smoking campaign developed by BWA for the Chicago Department of Public Health. The campaign, which targets young LGBTQ women of color in Chicago, raises awareness about the negative health effects of smoking and provides resources to help smokers to quit. Take Pride, Leave Cigarettes features positive images of young LGBTQ women of color in a healthy relationship, free of tobacco use. It is believed to be the first anti-smoking campaign aimed at this target population.

Information is Powerful Medicine was created by BWA in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights. Focusing specifically on Black men who have sex with men (MSM) given the significant HIV-related health disparities they face, the campaign underscored how having access to one’s medical record can help an individual better manage their health. The American Graphic Design Award is the second honor bestowed upon the Information is Powerful Medicine campaign. Earlier this year, the campaign team received the Secretary’s Award for Meritorious Service from the HHS.

BWA has won a total of nine American Graphic Design Awards; past awards were received for campaigns dealing with meth use, binge drinking, suicide, foster care and other issues of importance to BWA and its team.
