BWA Launches New Phase of Sugar Bites Campaign to Prevent Childhood Obesity
BWA, in partnership with First 5 Contra Costa, Healthy and Active Before 5, and Kaiser Permanente, recently launched a new phase of the Sugar Bites campaign to prevent tooth decay, childhood obesity, and type II diabetes in Contra Costa County, California by reducing consumption of sugary drinks. According to researchers, sugary drinks are the largest source of added sugar in the diets of children and are a major contributor to childhood obesity rates. The new phase of the campaign focuses largely on juice drinks, which many parents believe are a healthy option for their kids when in fact, they are often even more loaded with sugar and calories than soda. The ads urge parents to protect their kids by choosing to serve them water instead.
The Sugar Bites ads are running in both English and Spanish and can be seen on billboards, BART platforms, transit shelters, and convenience stores in Pittsburg, Bay Point, Concord, and Richmond through May 2014.
