Helping Faith-Based Communities Fight Diabetes
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 2011-06-07 16:51
As BWA winds up a two-year diabetes campaign for the New York State Health Foundation, we’re distributing 10,000 toolkits to faith-based leaders across the state to engage religious congregations in diabetes prevention and care. The toolkits include sample sermons, a screening survey to assess congregation members’ risk for diabetes, tips for healthier food choices, and other resources for educating and training members of faith communities. Most New Yorkers with diabetes or pre-diabetes regularly attend religious services, making this an important avenue to reach this target population.
