Information is Powerful Medicine at Chicago LGBT Pride

Chicago Pride is the largest celebration of its kind in the Midwest, typically held on the weekend of July Fourth. We were in attendance promoting our Information is Powerful Medicine campaign for the Office of Civil Rights, which aims to increase awareness of patients’ rights and benefits among HIV-positive Black men who have sex with men.

The right to access personal health information is a cornerstone of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule. Under HIPAA, patients can see or get a copy of their health information – including electronically – simply by asking their healthcare provider.

To spread the news to the Pride revelers, BWA took the campaign from downtown to “Boys Town,” featuring it at popular events before large crowds. Events included the following:

•    The “High Life Highlights: A Prom Fashion Remix” at the Center On Halsted’s youth program OVAH!
•    The URBANO party at club Prop House.
•    7TH ANNUAL PRIDEINDEX.COM™ ESTEEM AWARDS at club SideTrack in Boys Town.
•    The Chosen Few House Picnic at Jackson Park
