Testing Makes Us Stronger Campaign launches in Baltimore!

2012-03-13

Last Thursday, BWA launched the Testing Makes Us Stronger campaign in Baltimore, Maryland. The goal of the campaign is to promote HIV testing among black gay and bisexual men. Baltimore is the fourth of six launches in specifically targeted cities that have a high rate of African American Men who have Sex with Men (MSM). Testing Makes Us Stronger aims to demonstrate that knowing one’s HIV status is important and empowering information. The campaign has been received in Baltimore with a tremendous amount of support and enthusiasm.

Around 80 members of the community and representatives from community based organizations joined the Baltimore Health Department and CDC officials to celebrate the campaign launch. The event was held at the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center in Downtown Baltimore. Several guests spoke at the event including Rashad Burgess (Chief, Capacity Building Branch Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the CDC's National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention) and representatives from the Baltimore City Health Department and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
